উত্তরঃ TDS এর পূর্ণরূপ হচ্ছে– Total Dissolved Solid. পানিতে থাকা দ্রবীভূত কঠিন বস্তুর পরিমাণকে TDS বলে।
TDS এর উৎস:
যে কোন পানিতে দ্রবীভূত পদার্থ থাকে। বিভিন্ন উৎস থেকে এটি পানিতে যুক্ত হয়। উৎসগুলো হলো–
১. জৈব উৎস : পাতা, প্ল্যাংকটন (ভাসমান অণুবীক্ষণিক জীবাণু বিশেষ), স্রোতবাহিত কাদামাটি/পলি এবং শিল্প বর্জ্য ও পয়ঃবর্জ্য।
২. অজৈব উৎস : শিলা ও বাতাসে বিদ্যমান বাইকার্বনেট, নাইট্রোজেন, লৌহ, ফসফরাস, সালফার এবং অন্যান্য খনিজ পদার্থ।
৩. দ্রবণীয় ধাতু : পানি পরিবহনে ব্যবহৃত লৌহের পাইপ বা কপার পাইপ হতে লেড বা কপার আয়ন পানিতে মিশ্রিত হতে পারে। এখানে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হলো এই যে, পানির বিশোধন প্রক্রিয়ায় ফিল্টারকরণ একটি অপরিহার্য ধাপ। এর দক্ষতা নির্ভর করে TDS অপসারণের মানের উপর।
TDS পরিমাপ:
(১) উচ্চ TDS সম্পন্ন দূষিত পানিকে বাষ্পীভূত করে ভর মাত্রিক পদ্ধতিতে TDS গণনা করা যায়। (২) নিম্ন TDS সম্পন্ন দূষিত পানির ক্ষেত্রে পরিমাপ যন্ত্রের সাহায্যে পরিবাহিতা ও TDS এর মান জানা যায়। সংস্থা EPA (Environment Protection Agency) এর মতে আদর্শ TDS এর মান হলাে 500 ppm সার্বিকভাবে TDS এর মান 1000 ppm এর মধ্যে হলে ভালাে, কিন্তু তা 1000 ppm এর বেশি হলে সে পানি ব্যাবহার অযােগ্য হয়।
TDS পরিমাপের প্রয়ােজনীয়তা : TDS এর গ্রহণযােগ্য মান হলাে 500 mg/L বা ppm। অনেক পানিতে এ মান এর চেয়ে উচ্চ থাকে। সাধারণত TDS এর মান 1000 ppm এর উপরে হলে এ অবস্থায় এ পানি মানুষের ব্যবহারের অনুপযােগী হয়। উচ্চ মাত্রায় TDS পানিতে থাকলে বুঝতে হবে যে, পানি মারাত্মক ভাবে দূষিত হচ্ছে এবং তা প্রতিকারে যথা শীঘ্র ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া আবশ্যক। পটাসিয়াম, ক্লোরাইড এবং সােডিয়ামের উপস্থিতির কারণে এটি ঘটে। তাই সর্বদাই TDS পরিমাপ করে পানিকে মানুষের স্বাস্থােপযােগী করতে হয়। TDS পরিমাপের
প্রয়ােজনীয়তাগুলাে হলাে–
১. স্বাদ/স্বাস্থ্য : উচ্চ TDS এর কারণে পানির স্বাদ নষ্ট হয়। নােনতা, তিক্ত বা ধাতব আয়নযুক্ত হয়। তাছাড়া বিষাক্ত খনিজ এতে থাকতে পারে। 500 ppm এর উপর TDS থাকা অনুমােদনযােগ্য নয়।
২. পানির খরতা : উচ্চ TDS মানের পানিতে খরতা বেশি হয়। ফলে পাইপ বা কেটলির অভ্যন্তরে শক্ত আস্তরণ তৈরি হয়। ফলে বয়লার বা পাইপের কর্মক্ষমতা হ্রাস পায়।
৩. জল জীবন : পানিতে জীবন ধারণের জন্য নির্দিষ্ট মানের TDS থাকতে হয়। নির্দিষ্ট TDS মানের দরুন পানির pH ও নির্দিষ্ট হয়। pH উপযুক্ত পরিমানে থাকলেই পানিতে জীবন ধারণ সম্ভব হয়।
৪. বানিজ্যিক/শিল্পে : শিল্পে বা বানিজ্যিকভাবে ব্যবহৃত পানিতে নির্দিষ্ট মানের TDS থাকতে হয়। নতুবা বিভিন্ন যন্ত্রের দক্ষতা অল্প দিনেই ক্ষয়প্রাপ্ত হয়।
৫. কফি/খাদ্য সেবা : খাবার পানিতে, পানীয় প্রস্তুতিতে, কফি তৈরিতে ভাল মানের পানি ব্যবহৃত হয়। তাতে অনুমােদনযােগ্য TDS মাত্রা থাকা আবশ্যক।
TDS কমানাের উপায়:
সাধারণ ফিল্টার পদ্ধতি ব্যবহার করে পানি বিশােধন করলে TDS দূর হয়। এছাড়া আরও কয়েকটি পদ্ধতি নিচে দেওয়া হলাে–
১. কার্বন ছাঁকন : চারকোল ব্যবহার করলে ছাঁকন প্রক্রিয়ায় TDS ও অন্যান্য বিষাক্ত পদার্থ দূর করা সম্ভব হয়।
২. বিপরীত অভিস্রবণ : এ পদ্ধতিতে চাপে পানিতে একটি অর্ধভেদ্য পর্দার মধ্য দিয়ে চালনা করা হয়। পানি অর্ধভেদ্য পর্দার মধ্য দিয়ে চলে যায় কিন্তু দূষক পদার্থসমূহ আটকা পড়ে। এভাবে TDS এর মান হ্রাস করা যায়।
৩. পাতন : পাতন প্রক্রিয়ায় পানিকে বিশােধন করলে TDS হ্রাস পায়। পানি বাষ্পীভূত হয় বলে এতে দূষক পদার্থ থাকেনা বললেই চলে।
